Microsoft Dynamics C5 is a legacy ERP that was designed for very small companies. The ERP was originally named Concorde 5 and was launched in 1995. It was developed by Damgaard, the company that made Axapta, which eventually became Microsoft’s flagship ERP. Damgaard merged with Navision in 2001, and the new company was acquired by Microsoft in 2002.
Due to being designed for very small enterprises, it had limited features. However, it was still capable of managing a few business functions. These include accounting, finance, sales, and inventory.
Although the original application utilized a core developed by Damgaard, Microsoft replaced it with a modified version of Dynamics NAV. This led to an increase in functionality and usability.
Eventually, Microsoft decided to discontinue the ERP as part of its restructuring initiative. Microsoft recommended existing users to migrate to MS Dynamics 365 Business Central, the successor to Dynamics NAV. Extended support for the ERP will stop in early 2026.
