10g is a grid computing product developed by Oracle which includes a database management system (DBMS) and an application server. This product automates many database management tasks in addition to supporting grid features like resource sharing and automatic load balancing. The ‘g’ here symbolizes the commitment to the Grid model by the company. Known for its cost-effectiveness and flexibility, enterprise grid creates large pools of industry standards, servers, and modular storage. The grid architecture features every new system to provision from a pool of components rapidly. Oracle 10g aims at improving the quality of service by making the database easier to manage and deploy including enhancements to recover, back up and data warehousing.
Oracle 10g is designed and developed with a purpose of improving performance in all areas starting from the process of installation, configuration, application tuning, space, and storage management to database upgrades and so on. Some of the new features include flashback capabilities, an introduction of recycle bin just like Windows recycle bin or Mac Trash, virtualization of computing resources in a Grid environment to reduce the cost of hardware and storage, Business intelligent solutions, security enhancement, etc. Apart from the above-mentioned feature, Oracle 10g offers clustering, server manageability, grid computing, storage management, backup and recovery management, business intelligence and more.
